Fitout Construction

Allconnex was formed in July 2010 as an amalgamation of the Redland, Logan and Gold Coast Council water businesses. To launch their operation, they commissioned a new workplace design and fitout to house over 900 employees at the Robina Rocket.

Focus joined forces once again with interior designers, Smith Madden, to successfully bid for the project. The construction component involved a complete quality fitout of this brand new office that stretched over five floors. They commenced work in early January, a time that coincided with the worst natural disaster south-east Queensland has ever seen.

Fitout Logistics

The severe flooding affecting the area presented a unique set of challenges for the team. Working to an already tight deadline, Focus used their stand out scheduling skills to develop a detailed construction program. But when flooding affected two major components of the project, Focus showed they could handle any setback to still deliver on time.

First, the joinery shop producing the ceiling and wall materials was flooded. Focus urgently reorganised the building program so these materials could be rebuilt. Then, the European flooring was delayed and arrived in Brisbane just one day prior to the scheduled project completion. Focus was able to recruit 14 additional floor layers to install it overnight, meeting the original deadline.

The Focus team showed their proactive, hands-on approach in dealing with the project’s unexpected difficulties. Their clever solutions meant that even widespread flooding couldn’t derail the project.

Always working as part of a team, rather than just a contractor, Focus remained flexible throughout the entire process. Their excellent communication skills were instrumental in keeping this project on track, and the close relationship they formed with end client, Allconnex, speaks volumes.
